SPEAR

Accessing SPEAR

There are two ways to access SPEAR: Website based (A2P) - the most common - and Program based (A2A).

A2P refers to the direct user interaction with the SPEAR website to complete planning tasks. A2P is a free to use service that only requires internet access.

A2A is the process of electronically linking SPEAR and an organisation's own internal planning system. For example, retyping of information already known to SPEAR and manual transfer of documents to or from SPEAR will be totally eliminated. This is in addition to existing SPEAR benefits such as streamlining the referral process. A2A helps avoid multiple interfaces and double handling of information.

While the A2A version of SPEAR has significant benefits, it also requires integration with the organisation's own system. This will require an initial outlay of time and monetary resources to set up and therefore, initially, it may not be affordable for all organisations.

It is recommended that organisations initially use SPEAR using the A2P access before committing to the development of A2A.
